Candaba (formerly Candawe) is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Pampanga, Philippines. Candaba represents the lowest point in Central Luzon. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 86,066 people in 15,541 households.

Candaba is noted for its wide and scenic swamps, the habitat of mudfish and catfish. The popular "burong isda", a distinct Kapampangan fermented delicacy, is made from catfish or mudfish produced in Candaba.

Economy
Candaba is noted for its farmlands which produce watermelons.

The swamps are communal fishing grounds encompassing some 430 km² of highly arable land. Here the province's best produce, watermelon, muskmelon, which find their way to world markets, are produced.

Candaba swamps are very fertile due to its sustained deposits of humus and decaying vegetable residues. Migrant wild ducks and various bird wildlife escape winter winds from China and Siberia making Candaba their yearly sanctuary. Hunting birds in the swamp is a tourist attraction.

History
Candaba was formerly known as Candawe. It is one of the oldest settlements during the pre-Hispanic time, long before the encomenderos took hold of the town in 1593. Basically a fishing and farming community, the place was administered by datus as early as 1577.


HOW TO GET THERE

In the Philippines, land transportation is ably provided by the Genesis Transport Service, Inc. Genesis provides air-conditioned transport from Pampanga to Metro Manila and vice-versa via its Metro Manila to Bataan routes. These trips passes through the City of San Fernando then onwards via the Olongapo-Gapan Highway to Bataan, thereby passing through Guagua, Bacolor and Lubao in the process.

There are several trips a day, starting at 1.30 A.M. in the morning in its Pasay City Terminal in Metro Manila or 4:00 A.M. in its Avenida Terminal in Manila, and one leaving every 30 minutes thereafter till 8.00 P.M. At the other end, in its provincial terminals, the trips commence similarly for trips to Manila.

An array of mini-buses, jeepneys, and tricycles fill the gaps in the intermunicipal road with the City of San Fernando, Pampanga as the Terminal point.

GETTING AROUND PAMPANGA
TricycleTo get around Pampanga's municipalities, if one does not have a vehicle, there are numerous tricycles and jeepneys around for hire.

Minimum fare is Php 10 Pesos (US .20 Cents) around the municipalities of Pampanga.
